Traveling Competitive Program Overview

Traveling (Competitive) soccer is a great environment for competitiveness and high-level skills training. Any players considering making the jump to a traveling team should be made aware of the following:

  • Traveling soccer can be more expensive than recreational soccer.  It can incur costs from professional coaching,  increased practice time and travel expenses.
  • There is no guarantee of playing time. The best players play.
  • There is an increased chance for high-level development. Players looking to play in college and beyond should seriously consider joining a traveling team.
  • You will be required to try out and will be placed on a team according to ability.
  • Rules are generally more closely related to high school and college soccer.

COMPETITIVE / TRAVEL TEAM ASSESSMENT INFORMATION

Competitive Team Assessments for Spring 2019

As many of you know, we have experienced several rainouts for our last competitive player assessment session.  As a result, we have taken the weather out of the picture and arranged to have the Jamestown Recreation Center this upcoming Monday December 3rd from 5:30 - 6:30pm to run our assessments.

While we are strongly targeting the U8-U10 boys and girls players to determine numbers and possible placement to teams, all competitive kids can come.  Please bring shin guards, gym shoes (no cleats or turf shoes), a ball, and water for hydration.

If your player already attended the first assessment, they are not required to come this Monday however it would be great if they did.  In the event your player has been unable to attend the first assessment and will miss this one, and is still interested in playing competitively, please communicate this interest to Justin Sirotin (jsirotin@octopd.com) or myself Keith Deinert (keith.deinert@live.com) for options.

The JSA Competitive Soccer Program, while still focused on fun and individual player development, requires greater time and financial commitment than the Recreational Program. JSA will try to field at least one boys and one girls team for every age group and will do single birth year teams if player numbers allow it.
